How to Get Out of Burnout!

Are you someone who works all the time (or more than you’d like to admit)?

Maybe you told yourself you would take the night off but you couldn’t resist sending that one last email… or putting together one more client proposal… or sending that reminder to your team about the super important meeting coming up…

It’s OK, we’ve all been there.

I hope you realize that it’s impossible to do things “right” or “perfect” all the time.

And if you’ve been experiencing any of the following:

  • Lack of energy— e.g. feeling tired or exhausted all the time

  • Lack of motivation— e.g. feeling uninterested or disengaged with your work or what’s going on in your life

  • Lack of connection— e.g. feeling lonely or isolated given the lack of support or your environment

  • Lack of joy/optimism— e.g. feeling “negative” emotions often such as irritability, disappointment, overwhelm, annoyance, guilt, frustration, anger, resentment, shame, cynicism, and general blah and unhappiness and losing control of your reactions with unexpected outbursts/releases like crying or yelling

  • Lack of health— e.g. noticing increased physical health symptoms/ailments from frequent illnesses or prolonged recovery times, random aches/pains, disrupted sleep patterns, etc

I really want you to notice and PAUSE.

These are often your warning signs that you are heading to or are already in burnout.

So here’s what to do instead:

1) Take a break.

This is serious. You need to give yourself a break. Stepping away from work to recharge is essential for maintaining mental and physical well-being, especially for high-achievers.

2) Get support.

In difficult times we often withdraw and feel like we’re the only ones going through it. The reality is we are ALL human and we ALL go through tough times. Support can come in different forms- from mentorship to friendship to therapy to coaching to community to many more. You are not alone in this.

3) Focus on you.

While it can be helpful to learn tips and tricks to help with stress management and use specific scripts to honor your boundaries, the reality is… YOU have to be willing to honor yourself and change.

You can try to change your circumstances—e.g. other people (your team/clients/partner/family/you-name-it), the environment, the amount of money you make, the time you have, etc but it won’t matter.

If you’re constantly focusing on EXTERNAL factors, you will never feel in control. One difficult situation will only be replaced by another.

It’s only when YOU change from within and embrace who you are—what truly matters to you and express yourself authentically—that’s when you can easily prioritize and avoid burnout.

If you want support on this, I would love to hear from you!

I help high-achievers focus and change within to become the BEST version of themselves so that they know how to honor themselves and not get stuck in a burnout cycle.

If that’s you, book a call and let’s talk.
